Some quick background information: At the beginning of the year, I moved into a new house in a small, woodsy neighborhood right next to Lake Erie. I noticed that there were two cats that were living under the

house and decided to start leaving food out in my side door steps every couple days. They used to run away even if I got within 200 feet of them.
  • 04
After feeding them for almost a year, they finally let me pet them last month. I got a closer look at them and they look like fairly healthy younger cats. I named the grey

right in the lake, there is always treacherous lake effect snow a few times every winter which made me even more nervous.

About a week ago in the evening, I walked by the side door where I usually leave food out. The grey cat Sam was huddled against the door and meowing while staring up at me. I realized there was

a really bad snowstorm, strong wind and the temperature was 10 degrees with a wind chill in the negatives. My boyfriend said no stray cats in the house but since he wasn't home and

I couldn't bear to leave the poor baby outside, I let him in. I gave him a blanket, food and some pets. A couple minutes later, I passed out in my bed and

roughly after an hour, I woke up to Sam sleeping next to me. When I woke up, he started nuzzling me and making biscuits on my stomach.
  • 14
Also, Sam let me check him for bugs with a flea brush I had from my previous cat. No sign of bugs or insects, just some dirt and a little tangled hair. I checked his teeth, paws and ears which all seemed to be normal.

A couple hours later, Sam was sitting next to me on the couch and my boyfriend came home from work. I was caught red handed He was a little frustrated until Sam came right up to him and started meowing and doing circles around his legs.
  • 17
Ever since that night, Sam still mostly lives outside but he'll come and visit us for a few hours every night and meow to be let back outside when he's done. His friend, the black cat, Bugs is still too shy to come into the house but I see him almost everyday running around our yard.
  • 18
I've been leaving food out for him and hopefully one day he'll come in to visit too! FYI: I am saving up money to take these cats to the vet eventually to have a professional look at them :)

So I've posted already about this guy I named Sam who's a very lovely stray that comes and visits me for a couple hours every evening and then leaves. Usually he sits outside the side door and waits until I open it.
  • 21
Then he sits on the couch with me or eats his food in the kitchen, takes a little nap and then leaves. However last night there was a bad rain storm. I was out grabbing something from my truck and suddenly I heard a cry/meow from down the

street. So I called out Sam's name and he came running down the street towards me absolutely soaking wet and looked miserable. He followed me inside the house and let me towel him off and clean his muddy fur. I gave him some food, he took a nap and left after a
